The Team

Our team and network are experienced thought leaders focused on the relationships between agriculture and climate change. We understand the importance of soil carbon capture sequestration as related to soil health and the production of low carbon intensity (CI Score) materials for both industry and food supply. We understand and advise on whole system adaptation strategies affecting agriculture supply chain systems, and the critical need to manage inter-relationships across business sectors. Our Industry collaborations include leaders from the biotech industry, farmers, food ingredients, food supply chain, chemicals, biofuels, investors, government officials, institutions, risk managers, and other NGOs seeking to collaborate with solution-oriented system approaches.

The inception of Climate Systems Solutions (CSS) stems from the visionary perspective of co-founders Klaus Mager and Joel Stone. Recognizing the imperative for action-oriented strategies over legislative agendas, Mager and Stone set forth to revolutionize climate mitigation efforts. At the core of CSS's mission lies the interconnectedness of Soil Carbon Capture Sequestration (SCCS), low carbon intensity scores, and the Small Water Cycle. These elements are intricately linked by ecological and hydrological processes within terrestrial ecosystems. SCCS, specifically, entails capturing and storing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere into soil organic matter, thereby curbing atmospheric CO2 levels and mitigating climate change. The symbiotic relationship between carbon sequestration and the small water cycle underscores the integrated nature of these processes, highlighting CSS's holistic approach to combating climate crisis that ultimately integrate food security and supply systems.

We invite other thought leaders to join us as we embark on solutions fostering a carbon negative environment.

Joel Stone, President and Executive Director

Joel is an experienced executive who has served in leadership positions at many successful startup companies in food ingredients and industrial biotechnology with a focus on low carbon solutions. His leadership in strategic planning, operations management, and team building have been highlights in his career. He is presently President of ConVergInce Advisers, a consulting company focused on industrial biotechnology and food ingredients.  Joel’s engagement with Climate Systems Solutions (CSS) is driven by his long-term commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability, and the importance of human health and nutrition:

“The CSS platform has a focus on using agriculture and biotechnology to produce low carbon intensity materials for use in the food supply as well as replacing fossil based raw materials in the industrial and consumer products sectors. We encourage and advise all industries and governments to engage interactively to identify a unified pathway creating  a low or negative carbon emissions environment that our children and grandchildren can feel safe in for generations to come.”

Joel understands the linkages between agriculture and biotechnology that can improve soil health through taking advantage of soil carbon capture sequestration that will also offer improved water management, low carbon intensity materials, and improved food security and supply. Regenerative Agriculture has become a common term for soil health and Joel boils it down to a simple terminology as soil carbon capture sequestration.  LinkedIn

Klaus Mager, Executive Director Strategy and Program

Klaus has 40+ years in the foodservice industry, starting as a 4th generation classically trained Chef in Germany. He advanced to become the Director of Food Service for the Walt Disney Co, leading teams to design food systems for theme parks, hotels, and entertainment centers, up to and including operational startup. During the development for Hong Kong Disneyland, Klaus also developed the company’s supply chain, mostly from China.

Klaus then worked as head of corporate target group marketing for one of the largest food wholesalers in the world, Metro C&C operating in 30 countries. His country based pendant teams of analysts developed market segmentation strategies to guide over 6000 sales representatives with customer intelligence.

Since his retirement Klaus has been working on the intersection of Food and Agriculture with climate change, supporting and advising non-profit groups with guidance on the systems implications of changes required to regenerate our soils and watersheds back to health.

“There are tremendous opportunities for innovations and innovators to rebuild the farm to table supply chains. At CSS we have the skills and insights to support investors and operators with the technical support to fine tune products and find markets.” LinkedIn
